Mechanisms of Localization of Symbiont-produced Natural Products in Host Colony

چکیده
The relationship between the bryozoan Bugula neritina and its symbiont "Candidatus Endobugula sertula" is a specific yet complex model for defensive symbiosis where the host larvae obtain chemical protection from predation by symbiont-produced bryostatin. The symbiotic bacteria are located in both larval and adult tissues of the host. However, the bryostatins levels are higher in larvae and in adult zooids with ovicells where the larvae are brooded, compared to adult zooids without ovicells. In this study, symbiont cell density and bryostatin biosynthetic gene expression were quantified in host tissues, using TaqMan probe based Q-PCR, to investigate the mechanisms for the higher bryostatin content in larvae. The results showed that there are no significant differences of the symbiont cells in three tissues and the bryostatin gene expression is not different in ovicell-bearing zooids as compare to ovicellfree zooids suggesting that the host plays a role in transferring bryostatin to larvae. Some aspects of biology and host range of Biscogniauxia mediterranea, one of the causal agent of oak charcoal disease
Field surveys in Zagros forests located in western Iran were done to study some aspects of biology and host range of Biscogniauxia mediterranea during 2014-2016. The ability of its conidia and ascospores to cause the disease was evaluated under greenhouse condition. Ascospore viability and development of anamorph and teleomorph were surveyed under different conditions. The pathogen host range w...
متن کاملThe impact of transmission mode on the evolution of benefits provided by microbial symbionts
While past work has often examined the effects of transmission mode on virulence evolution in parasites, few studies have explored the impact of horizontal transmission on the evolution of benefits conferred by a symbiont to its host. Here, we identify three mechanisms that create a positive covariance between horizontal transmission and symbiont-provided benefits: pleiotropy within the symbion...
متن کاملHost Control of Symbiont Natural Product Chemistry in Cryptic Populations of the Tunicate Lissoclinum patella
Natural products (secondary metabolites) found in marine invertebrates are often thought to be produced by resident symbiotic bacteria, and these products appear to play a major role in the symbiotic interaction of bacteria and their hosts. In these animals, there is extensive variation, both in chemistry and in the symbiotic bacteria that produce them. Here, we sought to answer the question of...
متن کاملEffect of Host Genotype on Symbiont Titer in the
Obligate nutritional symbioses require balance between the energetic needs of the host and the symbiont. The resident symbiont population size within a host may have major impacts on host fitness, as both host and symbiont consume and supply metabolites in a shared metabolite pool. Given the massive genome degradation that is a hallmark of bacterial endosymbionts of insects, it is unclear at wh...
متن کاملAeromonas hydrophila, one reason causing the death of freshwater crayfish Procambarus clarkii (Girard, 1852)
Procambarus clarkii crayfish has been developed as an excellent animal model to study the characteristics and pathogenesis of white spot syndrome virus and the host defense mechanisms of crustacean. However, due to pathogen infections of crayfish in Chinese farms, research based on this model has been slowed down. Using triplex polymerase chain reaction, we found the virulence Aeromonas hydroph...
